I am a Political Scientist, professor, and researcher at the Universidad Iberoamericana, in the Department of Social and Political Sciences. My work analyzes the relationship between media systems and political regimes, with a focus on how particular configurations of societal and institutional factors mediate the effects of censorship attempts on the press.
I have authored over 30 academic papers and book chapters on press-politics relations, political institutions, and news coverage, and have written extensively on gender-based violence in media and coverage of feminist movements.
My latest book, Beyond violence: alliances and resistances of local Mexican press (CIDE, 2022), examines the survival of critical press under repressive conditions in Mexico’s subnational context.
I am an active member of several academic networks, including Worlds of Journalism, the female political scientists network No sin mujeres, and the LASA Media and Culture Section. I have coordinated the Journalism and Public Policy Program at CIDE, Mexico.
When I’m not researching or teaching, I run. In October 2024 I completed my first marathon in Chicago. Follow my training on Strava.
